Guido de Boer (NL) has been inspired by the local artist Pieter Laurens Mol with his work ‘Head Dope Dead Hope’. The studio of Mol was once located nearby in the street Spoorstraat. Together with his brother Vincent de Boer, they made diptych as a tribute to the artist.
After making the mural we heard the story of two friends who fought against their alcohol addiction for almost 26 years. In 2016 one of them had an accident due to a psychosis and died a few days later after his fatal injury. The man lived in the room above the text which Guido has painted. The story gives the text ‘Head Dope Dead Hope’ an additional load.
Guido de Boer is graduated as a graphic designer. He teaches typography, is founder of Vormplatform and is – together with his brother – part of the typographic collective Hign on Type.
