We invited Thunder & Bold (aka Martijn van der Meeren and Emiel Jonkers) to take on the old nursery school in the Burgemeester van Sonsbeeckpark in Breda. Nowadays the building is used as a day-care during the week and a coffeehouse during the weekends.
After some research we found out that once a year all the surrounding neighbours of the park get together and do maintenance on the park. They clean up the public gardens, plant flower bulbs and even have created playing equipment for the kids from leftover wood and other materials. This makes the Sonsbeeckpark a place of the people and this should be reflected in the mural.
Rainy day, dream away
Ah let the sun take a holiday
Flowers bathe an’ ah see the children play
Lay back and groove on a rainy day
Inspiration sometimes finds you and this was the case for Thunder & Bold this time. While working in their studio, listening to Rainy day, dream away from Jimi Hendrix it all came together. This is the place where the flowers bathe and the children play!
