Print Club Torino from Italy and Blind Walls Gallery are working together on a double artist-in-residence program. This gives a young Italian artist the opportunity to work in Breda for a month. Illustrator Ilse Weisfelt, trained in Breda, works and resides in Turin for several works. From July 31 to September 6, Italian artists can register via Print Club Torino by means of an “open call”
Blind Walls Gallery regularly receives international artists to make a mural. They prepare their work elder and are only briefly in Breda. A working period of several weeks makes it possible to really experience and get to know the city.
In both residences, the influence of the urban landscape on the world of experience, the behavior of people and the way of life is central. The Italian artist will delve into typical Breda stories. This will not result in a mural, but an edition work that will be for sale in the new Blind Walls Gallery Gallery.
The artist stays in the Blind Walls Gallery apartment and can work at Grafische Werkplaats RAAF. The Breda City Archives help with the investigation and provides access to historical documents. The residency period ends with a presentation, after which the produced work will be for sale.
The two participating artists will meet during the fifth edition of Graphic Days® Torino, an international festival for graphic design in Turin.
The residences are supported by the municipality of Breda, the province of North Brabant, the Dutch Embassy in Rome and the Italian Ministry of Culture.
