Inspiratie

Studio Octovidu was inspired by the story of Jan Ingenhousz and created a 32 meters long painting in the Magnoliastraat. Design made by Dominique van der Mast.

Discoverer of photosynthesis

Jan Ingenhousz is probably the most famous person of Breda. He was a physician, chemicus and botanist. In 1779 Jan discovered photosynthesis by showing that light is essential to the process by which green plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. In his lifetime he was best known for successfully inoculating the members of the Habsburg family in Vienna against smallpox in 1768 and subsequently being the private counsellor and personal physician to the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa.

Google has designed a Doodle in Ingenhousz’s honour
