The premise of this 37-meter-high mural is “view of the Vuchtpolder”. Looking at the military past and the nature reserve of today, water is one of the most important elements in the nearby polder.
During the 80-year war, the Vuchtpolder was strategically flooded, preventing soldiers from crossing the area. This tactic, also called inundation, is now also used to control certain weeds. The flower “Spanish horseman” is depicted underwater and refers to the Spanish soldiers who could not make the crossing towards Breda. The woman depicted reaches above the water and, like the soldiers before, looks out over the polder.
The water in this mural represents reflection and purity. Fairy tale characters are a recurring subject in the work of artist Super A. The reflection in the water refers to today’s world, where we pretend to be different (and more beautiful) than we are on social media.
This mural is made possible by Gemeente Breda and Alwel, the project is supported by Montana and Verfhuys Breda.
