A two-day filmfestival dedicated to graffiti, street art and mural. We proudly look back on a successful first edition!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/770743458?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Video by <a href=\"https:\/\/pepijnvisuals.nl\/\"><strong>Pepijn Visuals<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Since 2015 we tell the stories of Breda with our Blind Walls. We often hear questions like <em>&#8220;what is the process behind a mural?&#8221;<\/em>, <em>&#8220;what&#8217;s the difference between graffiti and street art?&#8221;<\/em> or <em>&#8220;why would you make murals or spray graffiti in the first place?&#8221;<\/em>. To answer these questions, we joined forces with Chass\u00e9 Cinema and created Blind Walls Film Fest.<\/p>\n<p>We opened the festival on Saturday November 5th, with the film <strong>The Art of Rebirth<\/strong> by director <strong>Vincent Lefebvre<\/strong>. The film follows French street artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/seth_globepainter\/\"><strong>Seth Globepainter<\/strong><\/a> in Ukraine, who paints murals on an elementary school, assisted by the school children. A gripping film that clearly moved the visitors. Next up was <strong>Megunica<\/strong> by Italian director\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/lorenzofonda\/\"><strong>Lorenzo Fonda<\/strong><\/a>, about worldfamous and quirky street artist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bluwalls\/\"><strong>Blu<\/strong><\/a>, on a roadtrip through South America. The last, and busiest film of the day was\u00a0<strong>Martha: A Picture Story,<\/strong> by Australian director <strong>Selina Miles<\/strong>. The film shows the special story of legendary hiphop and graffiti photographer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/marthacoopergram\/\"><strong>Martha Cooper<\/strong><\/a> in New York. At 80 years old, she still crawls through bushes along railroad tracks and climbs over roofs to photograph graffiti writers.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWith this first edition of Blind Walls Film Fest we created a foundation for a strong and substantive partnership in the field of street art- and filmculture, on to the next edition!&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/em>&#8211; <strong>Casper Houtman<\/strong>, <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p>The second day of the festival started with short films\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/onkruyd\/\"><strong>Onkruyd<\/strong><\/a> by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/igordeboer\/\">Igor de Boer<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong>A Love Letter For You <\/strong>(about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/steveespopowers\/\">ESPO<\/a>) by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/joeyjoeygarfield\/\"><strong>Joey Garfield<\/strong><\/a>. The highlight of the day was the premiere of <strong>Mural Hoofdstad<\/strong> by director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/taminoparren\/\"><strong>Tamino Parren<\/strong><\/a>, about street art in Heerlen. After the film there was a panel discussion with Tamino\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sanne_gijsbers\/\"><strong>Sanne Gijsbers<\/strong><\/a> (founder Street Art Heerlen en co-founder Street Art Cities), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/denniselbers\/\"><strong>Dennis Elbers<\/strong><\/a> (founder Blind Walls Gallery) and mayor of Breda, <strong>Paul Depla<\/strong> (mayor of Heerlen from 2010-2015). Beforehand we showed the short film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sorexone\/\"><strong>SOREX<\/strong><\/a> by <strong>Anne van Bree<\/strong>. The festival ended with classic <strong>Kroonjuwelen <\/strong>(crown jewels) by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/instunned\/\"><strong>STUNNED Film<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to films and talks there were photo exhibitions by street art hunters\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/lukedaduke\/\"><strong>LukeDaDuke<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/droos86\/\"><strong>David Roos<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sanne_gijsbers\/\"><strong>Sanne Gijsbers<\/strong><\/a> and graffiti-photographer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ogbaroem\/\"><strong>Baroem<\/strong><\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/dj_ezd\/\"><strong>DJ EZD<\/strong><\/a> took care of music.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNot everyone could picture what a Blind Walls Film Fest would be. The quality of the films, exhibitions, talks and the great vibe was a surprising combination for many visitors.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Dennis Elbers<\/strong>, founder Blind Walls
