The statement “We must make a revolution before it breaks out” (‘We moeten een revolutie maken voordat die uitbreekt’) is a famous one made by journalist and politician Hans van Mierlo. As the son of a banker and a factory owner, he was born in Breda in 1931.
In 1966 Hans van Mierlo was one of the main initiators of the social liberal party D66. For many years he was the face of the party.
This typographical mural is a tribute to Van Mierlo, who as a person has been important for Breda and Dutch politics.
Below you can hear Hans van Mierlo speaking the famous words during a conference in Leiden from 1968.
