During Blind Walls Film Fest, Rutger de Vries worked live on this mural in front of an audience with his own machines, rig systems, and spray guns that allow him to “drop,” “spray,” or “collide” paint in a controlled way.

He based his design on the tableau curtain (also known as a Wagner curtain) – a type of stage curtain that does not slide sideways but is pulled diagonally upward and outward for a dramatic reveal of the stage: rendered raw, mechanical, and entirely according to Rutger’s unique working method.

Rutger’s work resembles graffiti, but it is created without traditional tools: no spray cans, no brushes. He builds his own machines, rig systems, and spray guns that allow him to let paint “fall,” “spray,” or “collide” in a controlled way. The result is a painting shaped by high pressure, gravity, and technology — a blend of chance and tightly directed movement. His murals are both explosive and precise, recognizable by their vertical paint streams, controlled drip effects, and an almost industrial energy.
