Redevelopment of the Liniekwartier

The Liniestraat forms the external border of the Linie neighbourhood. At the request of local residents, the area wasn’t demolished but redeveloped by housing corporation Alleewonen (now Alwel), in cooperation with the residents. There is d.i.y. housing, a neighbourhood salon, and various cultural events in partnership with Electron.

Rosa Meininger

Belgian artist Dzia took inspiration from the origin of the area, a polder where many birds breed. The flamingo depicts the colourful character of the neighbourhood. Whilst applying the white ground coat, DZIA immediately got many responses from the residents. They really liked his ‘swan’. After painting the toucan he found his inspiration for the final bird. Together the three bids represent the creative, colourful and diverse feel of the neighbourhood, with a small nod to the past.

DZIA chooses to let his work speak for itself. Therefore his real name remains unknown and he’s not recognisable in photographs. For years he’s been painting animals in his characteristic style on walls all over the world.
