The murals in the artists’ café of the Chassé Theater respond to the underground location of the space. This setting evokes associations with the catacombs of a church – a place where valuable relics are kept. The design portrays the rituals that artists undergo before, during, and after their performances. It zooms in on objects that symbolize the art of theater and music. In doing so, it becomes an ode to artistry in a space dedicated to the performing arts.

Iris van den Bersselaar graduated in 2019 from AKV|St. Joost, where she studied Illustration. Her work focuses on themes related to mental health, which she portrays in a poetic and humorous way. She experiments with forms considered unconventional within the illustration world, such as textiles and poetic text integrated into imagery. Through this freedom, she found the space to develop her own visual language – one in which the everyday merges with the absurd. Those who know Iris know that her pencil is sacred.
