There’s already a big difference between a graffiti piece and a mural in public space, but working in a museum is in a completely different category. Of course, there’s more light and more time, but using spray paint is out of the question. On top of that, the viewer is up close to the work. So every line and surface had to be perfectly sharp, thought Danny Rumbl.

Not being able to rely on his usual tools and his eye for detail meant the process took a bit longer than expected. In just over four days, he would normally complete a mural spanning four stories. Despite the challenge, the work is typical of Danny—especially since the theme suits him so well. Not only does he explore his Indonesian roots by painting his grandmother’s recipes, his sister-in-law also worked at Raffy.
