The Polish artist Otecki previously created a mural in Breda about the liberation during World War II under the leadership of Polish General Maczek. Now, he has once again worked on an important moment in local history: the takeover by the Spanish army led by Haultepenne in 1582.
A chilling story, which is very sparsely documented. The local artist Zenk One had previously made a mural inspired by this story on Godevaert Montensstraat. At that time, the focus was on the mayor as the presumed hero. Although it was a public favorite, that mural has recently disappeared. Using the same centuries-old print as a source, a very different image emerged in the museum.
