The Liniestraat forms the outer limit of the Linie Quarter. By the request of residents this area was not demolished, but redeveloped by Alleewonen in close cooperation with its residents. There is DIY-housing, a neighborhood salon and various cultural events in partnership with Electron.
Belgian artist DZIA was invited to visualize the creative character of the neighborhood. His real name remains unknown, like he is not recognizable in photographs and chooses to let his work speak out for itself. For years he’s been painting animals in his characteristic style on walls all over the world.
The flamingo depicts the colorful character of the neighborhood. As this area used to be a polder frequented by many birds. While putting the white paint up DZIA already got many reactions from the neighborhood. They really liked his ‘swan’. After the toucan the inspiration for the final bird was easily found. Together the three birds represent the creative, colorful and diverse character of the neighborhood, with a small nod to the past.
