This mural was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Park Zuiderhout, which is a residential care complex located in Teteringen. The mural combines the stories of the Mission House of the past and the care home of today. Artist and illustrator Maaike Canne hopes to give viewers a warm feeling and make them dream away to faraway places.
The Fathers who left from Teteringen on missions mainly went to Southeast Asia and Africa. Inspired by the design from these regions, Maaike chose the ‘’ vista‘’ as a starting point. In these vistas, you see serene landscapes that correspond to the vistas encountered by Fathers on their missions. For the residents of Park Zuiderhout, these landscapes evoke memories of distant places and fine travels.
The two landscapes are brought together by a white dove. This represents purity and freedom, but also symbolises the Holy Spirit. The mural also shows the cycle of day and night. A metaphor for death and life.
