‘Proximity of the Stains’

Leyli is an Iranian artist living in the Netherlands. Her work has been shown in several solo and group exhibitions around the world, including in Hamburg and Hong Kong. For this unique exhibition, she has made charcoal drawings and worked with used coffee filters and tea bags – materials that are closely connected to her daily life and body. The process of unfolding and preparing them has become a ritual, tracing the stains, colours and textures left on the delicate paper. Drawing and constructing on these surfaces was a process of repetition and transformation, and ultimately one of healing.

“For me, there is a shared expression that arises between the two, when both processes slowly unfold; guided by traces, marks and silent gestures that reflect the rhythm of my daily practice. Reality as a means to create new things.”

The public opening of Leyli’s exhibition will take place on Thursday 27 February at 17:00 in the Gallery Gallery on Terheijdenstraat 1 in Breda.
